"Stay Down For The Come Up, It's About To Get Crazy"

Chicago’s very own Seer Beyond Sight just released her first full EP on streaming platforms, titled “Timecauplse Tape 1: Winter,” which is so fitting for this six-track masterpiece from the multifaceted emcee, with a crisp flow & cold bars, speaking her truth aka popping her shit and manifesting her come up with confidence.

I was first introduced to this beauty during her “Wishing Well” interactive exhibition at Fourtune House last year. The exhibition showcased the history of our relationship with Water and the current injustices we still encounter as Black folks, as a fight for environmental justice.

Her hard work and dedication to something profound, which she found necessary enough to curate and share, amazed and inspired me.

So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered Seer is also an artist. Last fall, she dropped Motion, and I had to add it to my “and what about it” playlist. It’s a bop, full of my type of shit-talking done by women. The track is full of charisma, wittiness, and confidence. In my opinion, Motion stamps Seer as a true Chicagoan and EMCEE, from her Sosa references and her ability to flow & have fun. With lyrics like “Call my ex like I just wanna talk, I just need closure,” & my favorite:

“I’m so much bigger & better. Tell them, boys, hold it together

I’m so much smarter & clever; that’s why they can’t take the pressure

I ain’t got no fear in my body, I stand on whatever, whenever.”

The Chicago girl in me lives for that bar! Growing up in Chicago, being cut from a particular cloth. One thing about it, it’s crucial that mfs know you ain’t a lame and can not be ho’d or intimidated, especially as someone with book and street smarts. It would be best if you made it known who you are and how you’re coming to survive and prosper.

When I caught wind that Seer Beyond Sight was dropping an EP, I knew I’d make it my business to listen to it because I’m always surprised by her artistry and creativity. I decided to give it a spin on this gloomy Friday’s Eve, and it was just what I needed to kick-start my writing and cultivate my life as a creative person who intends to wear many hats.

“You the type that sit and think, and I’m the type that do” - Different.

Seer’s voice and interchangeable flows are the most refreshing aspects of this project. Not too hard, not too soft, but just right. Brilliant, sexy, and cocky. Starting very vulnerable with Lovesick and boosting her confidence in herself & abilities with Different, Stunt Stunt, and Plan B. By track 5, I get why the first time capsule is winter. It conveys a sense of romance and longing, and it needs that person, with the classic voice note text message at the end.

Closing out with a freestyle, Foxy Cleo -- Seer Beyond Sight makes her stance clear again that she isn’t the one or the two -- that it’s more to her beyond her looks, she’s moving strategically, with authenticity, and she’s hardbody. She’s locked in with herself and her craft and has no desire for temporary fame, flings, and fraudulent activity.

“Foxy Cleopatra, I’m a Queen, and you a capper in this life and the one after.”

I am tuned in and looking forward to her first visual for this project. I can’t say which one I’d like to see a video for first; I’d rather be surprised. That’s been the most enjoyable thing about being a fan of Seer Beyond Sight. You don’t know what you’ll get or how, but you can guarantee it will be fire.
